Georgia-Pacific invites you to be a part of our Muskogee, Oklahoma tissue operation as a dynamic Public Affairs Manager. In this pivotal role, you will play a key role in shaping our company's reputation as a trusted community partner and industry leader. Supporting leaders and managers directly involved in production and operations, you'll drive communication initiatives that foster employee engagement and community relations. With minimal travel required for occasional collaboration or community engagement, you'll report to the Public Affairs Manager in Savannah, Georgia, while maintaining a strong connection to the Muskogee plant's Vice President of Operations.

Georgia-Pacific's Muskogee mill makes the toilet paper and paper towel products that we all want, need and use every day. The mill is an integral part of GP's Consumer Products business, with team members making products for both home and away-from-home use (stadiums, office buildings, restaurants). What You Will Do

  • Internal Communication: Be at the heart of our organization's internal communication strategy. Provide invaluable counsel and ensure the flawless execution of communication plans. Keep our diverse team connected to our mission, goals, and strategies, driving engagement and alignment.
  • Public Affairs/Community Relations: Be the face of our company in the community. Cultivate strong relationships with local government officials, regulatory agencies, and community groups. Position us as a trusted neighbor and outstanding community partner by creating meaningful connections with community leaders, influencers, and governmental agencies.
  • Media Relations: Take charge of our media presence. Pitch compelling stories to the media and respond swiftly and effectively to inquiries. Drive our narrative in the public sphere and showcase our values and achievements.
  • Strategic Communications Advisor: Provide strategic guidance to leadership teams and managers across various facilities. Shape consistent and relevant communications that drive employee engagement and support organizational objectives.
  • Employee Communications Program Management: Develop and manage a comprehensive employee communications program. Encourage face-to-face interactions and facilitate information sharing through written and visual tools, fostering a culture of openness and collaboration.
  • Issue Management and Crisis Response: Anticipate and address potential issues that could impact mill operations. Establish protocols for crisis communication and serve as a key member of the crisis management team, ensuring swift and effective response to company vulnerabilities.
  • Community Engagement: Tell our company's story in the community. Develop and implement programs and volunteer opportunities aligned with our focus areas of entrepreneurship, education, environment, and enrichment. Add long-term value to our business, community, and customers through meaningful community engagement initiatives.
  • Media Relationship Building: Collaborate with the Atlanta-based communications team to build strong relationships with reporters and editors covering our community. Serve as a company spokesperson and facilitate interviews, providing background information and explanations to ensure accurate and positive coverage.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • Minimum of 7 years of public relations or related experience.
  • Experience with communications strategy and programs, including adapting and implementing best practices of other communication programs.
  • Excellent writing, editing and general communication skills, demonstrating at least 4 years of writing and editing in a communications role.
  • Experience with news media and community relations.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with supporting leadership communication and employee engagement efforts.
  • Experience working with digital communication tools, including video, social media and SharePoint or other web-based applications.
  • Involvement with community groups such as chamber of commerce or other local business groups.
  • Knowledge and experience working with elected officials and appointed government officials.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or public relations concentration preferred.
