ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Director of Operations assists in the supervision of the Manager of Flight Dispatch, Manager of Crew Resources, Manager of Operations Planning, and the Airways Publications Assistants.

The Assistant Director of Operations is administratively and operationally accountable to the Director of Operations. Duties, authorities, and responsibilities shall include but not be limited to the following:

The Assistant Director of Operation's duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assists in monitoring the dispatch facilities to ensure that its size, scope, personnel and equipment are sufficient to release and monitor flights. Will assist in the quality of the Operational Control process and establish and modify the policies, procedures, instructions and information for the Operational Control process.
  • When assigned Operational Control during the Director of Operations absence, will have control of all company aircraft including initiation, continuation, diversion, and termination of all flights in compliance with all applicable FARs and the Operations Specifications.
  • Will assist in canceling, diverting, or delaying a flight if in his/her opinion or the opinion of the Pilot in Command the flight cannot operate or continue to operate safely as planned or released.
  • Will assist in monitoring of each flight with respect to the following: Departure of the flight from the place of origin and arrival at the place of destination, including intermediate stops and any diversion there from. Any known conditions that may adversely affect the safety of flight.
  • During the Director of Operations absence, the ADO will terminate, restrict, or suspend operations when conditions are known to be hazardous until those conditions are corrected. Coordinates with maintenance on aircraft crew scheduling. Attend Industry functions as required.
  • Will review and approve all Flight Plan Requests. Under Direct supervision from the Director of Operations, the ADO will generate, sign and distribute Operational Specifications under part 119.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Operations, the ADO will work jointly with maintenance to ensure that all policies, procedures, instructions and information concerning ETOPS are written in enough detail to preclude a breakdown or discontinuity in operation.
  • Distributes and maintains all company operation manuals, notifies appropriate personnel of procedure changes, hazardous conditions of flight and ground operations. Ensure operations are conducted in accordance with conditions and restrictions of the company's Air Carrier / Operator Certificate and in compliance with applicable regulations, Operations Specifications and company standards.
  • Maintains close liaison with domestic and international regulatory authorities, original equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors; and other external entities relevant to flight operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold an airline transport pilot certificate;
  • Have at least 3 years supervisory or management experience within the last 6 years' in a position that exercised operational control over any operations conducted with large airplanes.
  • An Assistant Director of Operations will have at least 3 years' experience as PIC of a large airplane operated under Part 121.
  • Must be able to pass a 10-year Background/Criminal check and pre-employment drug screen

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years Pilot in Command experience in Large Transport Category Aircraft
  • International Flight Operations experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to obtain First Class Medical Certificate
  • Requires travel
  • Lift up to 60 lbs

  • Capable of interpreting a variety of and multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to communicate effectively so to be understood
  • Must be able to remain calm, think and react quickly in all types of emergencies including but not limited to: medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, turbulence, etc.
  • Able to process information quickly
  • Ability to complete routine forms, use existing form letters and/or conduct routine oral communication
  • Possess attention to detail
