Job Description
Basic Function

Assures Turnaround readiness and execution through developing a project team and providing training and support. Continuously improves Turnaround results to drive competitiveness within the region. Identifies areas of concern and develops solutions in conjunction with the VP, Refining Operations and Refinery Managers.

Job Duties
  • Assures sites develop and utilize a turnaround premise document for each planned turnaround.

  • Assures utilization of company tools and best practices for turnaround scope development, planning/scheduling, execution and TA controls to achieve predictable results and to ensure the facility to meets the future planned run interval.

  • Assures readiness reviews are completed and risks are identified/tracked with mitigation plans. Assures post-TA learnings reviews are conducted with improvement opportunities identified and action items tracked to completion.

  • Leads by example by focusing on safety in execution and responding strongly when we have incidents or near misses.

  • Owns the annual Mid-Con turnaround budget and coordinates with the sites as they develop their site budgets.
  • Assures the use of KPIs to track and steward scope development, planning, scheduling, estimating and staffing in order to set and meet turnaround scorecard goals.

  • Trains site teams on common tools such as Navitrack, SAP, Track, HF Sinclair practices.

  • Evaluates and recommends when to use consulting groups for helping sites to prepare for Turnarounds

  • Coordinates with the sites in developing/updating the long term Mid-Con plan for Turnarounds.

  • Captures benchmarking data and helps site management know where improvements and opportunities exist.

  • Ensures Lessons Learned are incorporated to future turnaround planning and continually challenges past practices.

  • Develops a winning, positive, caring, transparent and team-centered culture; consistently demonstrates the One HF Sinclair culture in words and actions. Communicates and leads by example the one team one event culture.

  • Effectively communicates throughout the organization-up line and down line and ensures balance between face to face time with managers vs. WebEx, and remote conferences calls.

  • Champions Turnaround leadership participation with the Corporate Network Team.

  • Participates in Turnaround readiness assessments across the fleet.

  • Works with site leads to develop site teams, set competitive goals and identify development opportunities.

  • Utilizes Solomon data to drive competitive goals compared to peers.

  • Drives standardization of turnaround best practices and work practices. Champions "Lean" practices in turnaround.

  • Champions contractor synergy strategies at all sites to effectively coordinate turnaround work and utilize the company Tier 1,2 contractors.

    Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from timeto time at their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 15 years of experience related to refinery routine maintenance and reliability are required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience, is required.

Required Skills

Be accountable and have the ability to influence senior level managers in driving continuous improvement in turnaround performance. Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills and ability to build technical and operational capability. Good spreadsheet, database and word processing applications knowledge; strong written and verbal communication, negotiating, time-management and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively with others and influence multiple operations. Advanced reading and writing skills and the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

No direct reports. Dotted line to Refinery site Turnaround Managers. Future potential of 2-3 direct reports.

Work Conditions

Office-based with warehouse and refinery environment exposure with travel up to 50% of the time by land or air. Up to 60% of time will be required to work in petroleum refinery environment. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise finger and hand movements, reaching or grasping, climbing up to 250 ft, ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, and valid State driver's license and proof of insurance required.
