Job Description
Basic Function

Responsible for disassembling, rebuilding, reassembling and installing refinery type process pumps, compressors, steam turbines, engines, gearboxes, air motors, fans, mixers, valves and other mechanical equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation of refinery equipment.

Job Duties

* Troubleshoot operating equipment (pumps, motors, compressors, turbines, diesels, fans, gear units, etc.) evaluate cause, and correct problem.
* Work in Shop or Field: Disassemble, inspect, clean, document as found condition, repair or replace parts (including gaskets and packing), reassemble, document as built condition, and align the following types of equipment:
o Centrifugal Pumps
o Positive Displacement Pumps
o Centrifugal Compressors
o Positive Displacement Compressors
o Air Compressors
o Blowers
o Various types of Fans
o Motors
o Turbines
o Gearboxes
o Rotating Filters
o Other Rotating Equipment
* Remove upper case and turbine rotor , inspect and troubleshoot rotor, bearings and seals, replace parts as required, reassemble and reinstall element, align, document as found and as built conditions and perform overspeed trip test.
* Use cutting equipment to cut steel and heat metal to remove bearings and couplings from a shaft, remove case bolts from turbines and pumps, and to remove nuts and bolts from various pieces of equipment.
* Disassemble, repair and reassemble sight glasses
* Install and remove flange blinds.
* Use of alignment equipment (Ex. Laser alignment devices), dynamic balancing equipment and be able to take precise measurements using instruments such as micrometers.
* Perform various safety procedures including communicating any unsafe conditions to the unit operators and ensure all work and operations are performed in accordance with safety policies and procedures, and participate in safety walk through audits.
* Operates lathes, mills and drill presses.
* Use computer based CMM system to enter and research repair data.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

2 or more years of on-the-job experience required or Associates Degree in Applied Technology or equivalent.

Education Level

A minimum of a High School degree or equivalent is required.

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

Associate's Degree preferred.

Required Skills

Good verbal/written communication, computer literate, good mathematical & problem-solving skills, ability to read & interpret various instructions, procedures, rules, and regulations. Must have the ability to enter manways on towers, work in high places, and around high temperatures. Perform work of consistent quality and visual acuity (including color, depth perception, and field of vision). Team player, self-starter, independent worker, good time management and analytical skills and priority setting ability.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

None.

Work Conditions

Field based.

Physical Requirements

Must be flexible to changing schedule. Must be willing to work overtime as needed. Able to work rotating 12-hour shift schedules. Able to work in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to grip, hold, operate various power tools and make precise hand and finger movements. Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Able to lift, carry, climb, walk, stand, stoop, kneel, push, reach, climb stairs and ladders and have a sense of balance. Able to hear alarms, emergency horns and make visual inspections. Able to wear and utilize negative and positive pressure breathing apparatus.
